Volunteering with the Center
Volunteers are integral to the work that Center for Women in Transition does! Whether it’s as a mentor to one of the women in our program, helping out in the office, or coming with a group of friends or colleagues to sort donations, we could not do what we do without you! Ongoing Opportunities
Volunteer Office Assistant
Summary: Provide administrative assistance to the Center’s main office, including help with mass mailings, correspondence, filing, and answering the telephones.
Time commitment: 2-4 hours weekly.
Saturday Gathering Volunteer
Summary: Attend monthly Saturday Gatherings and assist with child care of mentees’ children.
Time commitment: 10am-11:30am, 3rd Saturday of each month.
Development Assistant
Summary: Provide assistance to the Center’s development office, including help with managing donor records, sending donor acknowledgements and running reports, as needed.
Time commitment: 2-4 hours weekly.
Mentor
Summary: Female community volunteers over the age of 25 commit for one year to assist women develop goals, budget monthly expenses and learn new life skills.
Time commitment: One year of service including an initial one day training session, ongoing contact with mentee, and mentor support meetings four times per year.
Episodic Volunteer Program
Have a hectic schedule but want to give back? Have a group of friends, co-workers, or members who are looking for ways to serve? Center for Women in Transition has a variety of one-time volunteer projects that are perfect for groups and individuals who want to help us achieve our mission to assist women in the criminal justice system in making a successful transition to their families and communities.
Project: Donation Assistance
Summary: Volunteers assist the Center in sorting and organizing our in-kind donations.
Time Commitment: 3-4 hours; great group opportunity!
Project: Lunch and Learn [Weekend opportunity!]
Summary: Prepare lunch with women in our program and organize an afternoon of activities or workshops. Must be twenty-one years of age or older. Missouri Department of Corrections Web Search will be conducted.
Time Commitment: 3-4 hours
Project: Bridging Home
Summary: Invite 10 to 15 friends into your home for a light meal and a presentation about Center for Women in Transition.
Time commitment: 1-2 hours
Project: Saturday Gatherings
Summary: Donate food for gatherings or help plan a fun trip for women in the mentoring program.
Time commitment: Varies. Saturday Gatherings take place on the third Saturday of every month from 10:30am-11:30am.
