Vision, Mission & History
Vision:
Impelled by our belief in the God-given dignity of each human person, and aware of the need and right which every child has for a stable and nurturing environment, our collaborative efforts with other agencies will result in the transformation of the current retributive (punitive) justice system into a restorative (healing ) justice system.
Mission:
To work with women in the criminal justice system for non-violent crimes to assist them in making a transition back into their families and into society.
To promote restorative justice in society and the criminal justice system.
History:
The Center for Women in Transition was founded in November 1997 after a group of women working in criminal justice ministries met with a group of women who had been incarcerated and identified the basic causes of recidivism in women. This group determined the aids that recently released women need to reduce recidivism and re-establish healthy lives. The Center was established to provide these aids, beginning with mentoring and advocacy.
